It is really a rumour, published on Techcrunch. Frankly, I love the both services and like Ouriel, I never understood why Plaxo never directed its service towards the social one and why Xing and Linkedin did not simplify the synchro of the contacts with its online network (improved by the partnership between Linkedin and Plaxo, but paying :-). I had imagined last October that Plaxo would have to improve in the social networking. The partnership with Xing would be an excellent way to reach that goal. But it seems, not to be like this ; -) It’s a shame, because the fact to see Linkedin, the king of the closed policy owner, challenged by a junior who fight for opening the data would have been a pleasure… But that will end up arriving, it is necessary to be patient, because one day will come and the user will take again the property of his network and will not be captive any more of the person receiving benefits. In particular thanks to openID.

Edit: Finaly, Xing won’t acquire Plaxo, but will have a deal with Zoominfo. It’s less productive.
